SBU officers detained in Sumy region an agent of Russian special services who was adjusting enemy strikes on the border area. He turned out to be a former head of the investigative department of one of the units of the disbanded militia in the Shostka district, reports UNN citing the Security Service of Ukraine.
Details
The suspect came to the attention of the authorities due to his long-standing friendly ties with a Russian serviceman and his own pro-Kremlin convictions.
According to the case materials, in 2025, an employee of the FSB directorate for the Bryansk region contacted him and offered to collect intelligence data for Russian strikes on units of the Defense Forces in the northeastern border area. After the briefing, the agent began tracking the locations of Ukrainian troops, primarily the positions of fortified areas, firing positions, and checkpoints. To gather intelligence, he walked around the border area and covertly inquired about the necessary information from acquaintances
He transmitted the collected information to Russian special services via a messenger for preparing strikes on the region with guided aerial bombs and kamikaze drones. After his detention, the suspect's smartphone was found and seized, containing evidence of working for the aggressor.
The detainee was notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). Currently, the offender is in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Reminder
The SBU detained two more agents of Russian special services in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The offenders directed missile and drone attacks by the Russian Federation on the region's energy infrastructure - one of the key thermal power plants.
