Zelenskyy: At least 6 mayors and heads of communities in Russian captivity

At least 6 mayors and heads of communities are in Russian captivity, one of them, Yevhen Matveev, was killed. In total, more than 1700 Ukrainian civilians are held captive by Russia, including more than 400 women.

At least six city mayors and community leaders are currently in Russian captivity. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the international human rights conference "Decade 2014-2024. Winning back human rights. Preserving Democracy", UNN reports.

The President noted that the mayor of Dniprorudne, Yevhen Matveev, was killed in Russian captivity .

"Yevhen Matveev was captured back in March 2022 when he tried to help people. Now at least 6 mayors and heads of communities are in Russian captivity," Zelensky said.

According to him, 3,767 Ukrainians have already been returned from Russian captivity.

In October of this year, Zelensky stated that more than 400 women were held captive in Russia, and that, according to confirmed data alone, there were 1,700 civilians in captivity, but the number could be higher.
