Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng is partnering with German automaker Volkswagen AG to create a new design team to speed up the process of developing a new electric vehicle (EV) architecture.
The project reportedly includes workshops located in the Chinese cities of Guangzhou and Hefei, which will also be warehouses for engineers from both sides to work together.
At the heart of the idea of cooperation for the coming years: the production of a jointly developed architecture, which is a configuration of electronic components and modules in an automobile.

Xpeng and Volkswagen formed a partnership last year when Volkswagen bought 4.99% of Xpeng for about $700 million and plans to jointly launch two Volkswagen-branded electric car models by 2026.
