Details
Law enforcement officers detained members of an organized criminal group who kidnapped and murdered a Latvian resident. According to the investigation, the victim owned a residential complex worth more than four million euros on the seashore in the resort town of Saulkrasti and rented out apartments.
A father and son from Russia, who were living in Latvia as refugees at the time, learned about the woman's wealth and decided to take possession of her property. To do this, they “invited” three Ukrainian citizens they knew to the country.
The perpetrators lured the woman out of the building, forced her into a car, and drove her out of the city. The perpetrators tortured the victim and demanded that she sign over her estate to them, and when she refused, they killed her.
The National Police investigators have gathered enough evidence to serve suspicion notices to the Ukrainian defendants and complete the pre-trial investigation against them. The case against one of the perpetrators has already been sent to court for consideration on the merits.
Latvian police detained the organizers from Russia. They were sentenced to 20 years in prison.
