The Verkhovna Rada today passed in the first reading a bill on the status of the English language in Ukraine. The requirement to show English-language films in the original language without dubbing was removed. This was reported on Wednesday in the parliamentary corps, UNN writes.
The Rada supported the draft law (No. 9432) on the use of the English language in Ukraine. The vote was 278 in favor, Zheleznyak wrote on Telegram.

According to the MP, the draft law provides for the official consolidation of the status of English as one of the languages of international communication in Ukraine. It will also define the categories of positions for which candidates must know English, MP Oleksiy Honcharenko added on Telegram.
"The rule on screening English-language films in cinemas in the original language with Ukrainian subtitles was excluded by the committee's decision. So those who were in favor of preserving dubbing can rest easy)," Zheleznyak said.
Context
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed a new status for English in Ukraine - as a language of international communication and submitted a bill to that effect. Among other things, the draft law stipulated that "foreign films whose original language is English shall be shown in cinemas in the original language with subtitles in the state language."
