The water in the Volga River near the embankments and recreation areas of the Russian city of Samara has turned bright green due to the massive proliferation of toxic cyanobacteria. Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service stated that this is the result of years of dumping untreated wastewater and the failure of the federal program to restore the river, reports UNN.

Details

According to the FIS, local residents are posting videos of water colored acid green. Hydrologists explain this by the rapid spread of toxic cyanobacteria.

This toxic mass is actively growing due to the constant discharge of dirty, untreated wastewater and nitrogen-phosphorus fertilizers from fields into the river, which have become an ideal nutrient medium for the bacteria. At the same time, Russians were not banned from swimming in the river

 - reported the Foreign Intelligence Service.

The intelligence service noted that the federal project "Revival of the Volga," which was actively promoted by the Kremlin, did not achieve its stated goals, despite significant funding.

Nearly 127 billion rubles were allocated to save Russia's main water artery, but instead of cleaning the river, Russians got a green swamp

- the statement reads.

According to the FIS, the Russian authorities planned to reduce the volume of polluted wastewater by three times, but this did not happen. As early as 2024, a parliamentary inspection established that out of 121 funded wastewater treatment facilities, only six achieved standard indicators.

In 2026, the situation did not change - seven thousand cubic meters of untreated municipal wastewater enter the Volga every day

- the intelligence service noted.

The FIS also stated that Russian officials essentially simulated the implementation of the environmental program.

For Putin's power vertical, this situation is absolutely normal: Russian governors did not even appear at construction sites, instead sending beautiful photo reports to Moscow

- emphasized the Foreign Intelligence Service.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, this situation demonstrates systemic problems of state governance in the Russian Federation and the authorities' inability to effectively implement large-scale infrastructure and environmental projects.
