In Volyn region, law enforcement officers liquidated an organized criminal group that terrorized and tried to keep local residents in fear. This was reported by UNN with reference to the Security Service of Ukraine.
Details
The criminals created artificial conflict situations with local residents and then extorted money from them for "peaceful resolution of disputes."
In particular, SBU officers recorded how the men "extorted" a non-existent debt of UAH 120,000 from a wounded Ukrainian Armed Forces grenade launcher who had returned from the front line for treatment and rehabilitation.
The SBU detained three members of a criminal group while they were receiving part of the money from a man.
Currently, all four defendants have been served a notice of suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (extortion committed by an organized group under martial law, combined with causing grievous bodily harm). The detainees are in custody. The investigation is ongoing. The offenders face up to 12 years in prison
Addendum
When the wounded soldier refused to pay the perpetrators, they inflicted bodily harm on him, resulting in a head injury and bruising of the cervical spine.
In case of further resistance, the racketeers threatened the victim with physical violence.
Investigators found out that the gang's organizer was a criminal serving a sentence in a penal colony in Volyn for robbery. It was he who involved three of his accomplices "on the outside" who had previously served prison terms for robbery, theft, and extortion.
