Verkhovna Rada Committee supports bills to deprive traitors of state awards and regulate weapons handling

The Verkhovna Rada's Law Enforcement Committee recommended the adoption of draft laws to deprive state awards for propaganda of the aggressor and to improve the procedure for handling weapons. This was done pursuant to the order of the President of Ukraine.

The Law Enforcement Committee of the Verkhovna Rada recommended that the parliament adopt bills to deprive state awards for popularizing or propagandizing the aggressor state and to improve the procedure for obtaining, declaring and handling firearms. This is reported by the press service of the Verkhovna Rada, UNN reports.

On August 15, 2024, at an extraordinary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement, pursuant to the order of the President of Ukraine, the Parliament recommended that the Parliament immediately consider and adopt laws to deprive state awards for popularizing or propagandizing the aggressor state and to improve the procedure for obtaining, declaring and handling firearms

It is noted that the committee recommended that the Verkhovna Rada adopt as a basis and as a whole a draft law on deprivation of state awards for popularizing or propagandizing the aggressor state or committing other illegal actions against Ukraine, as well as adopt in the second reading a draft law on improving the procedure for obtaining, declaring and handling firearms.

Today, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the Verkhovna Rada to convene urgently in the near future to consider the defense legislative package, including issues related to, among other things, the settlement of the issue of trophy weapons, the citizenship of foreigners fighting in Ukrainian legions, and the deprivation of state awards to traitors.
