According to the Swiss air traffic control service Skyguide, the failure occurred after the integration into radar systems of a no-fly zone over the Bürgenstock resort, where the negotiations are taking place.
The company explained that the decision to create the zone was made at the last moment, as the next round of negotiations was only finally agreed upon the day before.
Dozens of flights were canceled due to the failure
A spokesperson for Zurich Airport told Reuters that by noon, 12 arriving and 14 departing flights had been canceled. At least 60 more departures were delayed.
Skyguide stated that the problem has already been resolved and the systems have been fully restored.
