Trump's lawyer demands dismissal of election meddling charges due to “presidential immunity”

Donald Trump's lawyer has appealed the dismissal of charges in the Georgia election interference case. The defense argues that as president-elect, Trump has full immunity from prosecution.
Donald Trump's lawyer in Georgia is asking for election interference charges against the US president-elect to be dropped, arguing that he “has complete immunity from prosecution or any criminal proceedings, state or federal,” UNN reports with reference to the Guardian.

Donald Trump's lawyer, Steve Sadow, has asked the Georgia Court of Appeals to dismiss Donald Trump's appeal of a lower court decision to allow Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to remain as prosecutor in the case, as the Fulton County Superior Court no longer has jurisdiction given Trump's election victory.
In his statement, Steve Sadow refers to the Justice Department's decision to end federal prosecution of Donald Trump last month, as well as the Office of Legal Counsel's 2000 finding that the president cannot be prosecuted by local prosecutors.
Donald Trump faces eight charges in Georgia, including racketeering, for trying to overturn the results of the 2020 Fulton election after Georgia voted for Joe Biden.
However, Trump pleaded not guilty in a massive 2020 election interference case in Fulton County last year, along with 18 other defendants.
The case has been suspended since June, when the Court of Appeal suspended the proceedings to consider an appeal requesting the removal of prosecutor Fani Willis from the case.

The U.S. Court of Appeals has dismissed the last federal criminal case against Donald Trump for the possession of classified documents. The case is closed with the right to reopen after the end of his second presidential term.
