Trade talks between these otherwise allied and reliable trading partners broke down last week. Following the collapse of the talks, the long-planned U.S. tariffs on various Canadian goods took effect, and Canada pledged to take retaliatory measures.
"Canada has been ripping off the United States of America for years," Trump wrote on social media Monday morning. Criticizing Canada's "outrageously high tariffs" on American farmers, Trump wrote: "This is unsustainable, and it will not continue!"
