US President Donald Trump said "everything is great" in response to a journalist's question about the progress of negotiations with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, UNN reports with reference to CNN.

The important meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping has now concluded. The talks lasted over 2 hours and 15 minutes, Chinese state television CCTV reported.

"Everything is great," Trump said in response to a journalist's question while visiting the Temple of Heaven in the Chinese capital.

"Beautiful place. Incredible. China is beautiful," Trump said.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping told Donald Trump that their countries should be "partners, not opponents," while the US President called Xi a "great leader" as they began the talks. They were expected to discuss a range of complex issues, including technology and trade. 

At the meeting on Thursday, Xi Jinping told Trump that Taiwan is the "most important issue in China-US relations" and could create a "very dangerous situation" if mishandled, Chinese state media reported.

Washington maintains strong unofficial relations with democratically-governed Taiwan but deliberately avoids answering whether it would intervene militarily in the event of a Chinese attack.

China's state news agency Xinhua published official photos of Chinese leader Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump shaking hands and posing for photos before their bilateral meeting on Thursday morning.

According to Chinese state media, Chinese leader Xi Jinping met with representatives of American companies during his historic summit with US President Donald Trump.

US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping arrived at the Temple of Heaven for a cultural visit following their talks. The temple is a UNESCO World Heritage site and an ancient place of worship where emperors once prayed for a good harvest.
