Olena Shulyak announced an increase in the number of parking spaces for people with disabilities and stricter fines for violations. The changes are expected to be implemented within one to two years.

Olena Shulyak, head of the Committee on the Organization of State Power and Local Self-Government, said it was necessary to increase the number of parking spaces for people with disabilities and increase fines for violators.

She told this to the journalist of UNN.

Shulyak notes that the city's infrastructure was not designed for such a large number of cars and the needs of residents. Although new building regulations require an increase in the number of parking spaces, developers often ignore these rules to reduce construction costs.

She noted that legislation needs to be improved, particularly in terms of responsibility for designing residential buildings and infrastructure with adequate parking.

We need to increase the number of parking spaces for people with disabilities, because the full-scale invasion has led to an increase in the number of people with injuries who have these needs. Obviously, the statistics are currently disappointing. In general, I support the idea of raising fines for parking in spaces for people with disabilities. I don't believe that you can only gently persuade people not to violate the law. In Kyiv, everyone already knows that towing is expensive, so cars should be parked in designated places. The same should be done in this case

- said the chairman of the Committee on the Organization of State Power and Local Self-Government.

When asked by a journalist when we can expect an increase in parking spaces for people with disabilities, Shulyak replied:

This is not a quick process, but the very fact that it is being discussed and included in the barrier-free strategy means that it is definitely not a matter of decades, but of a year or two

Recall

Due to the full-scale war unleashed by Russia, the number of people with disabilities in Ukraine is rapidly increasing. These are both veterans who were wounded defending our country from the occupiers and civilians who suffer from constant shelling by Russian terrorists.

Providing them with proper and comfortable living conditions should be one of the main tasks of the Ukrainian authorities, along with defense and economic recovery. Currently , the situation with barrier-free accessibility in Ukraine remains difficult, despite some positive developments in recent years.
