Five men spray-painted the fence of the Finnish Embassy in Moscow and threw eggs at it, leaving the inscription “The Åland Islands are ours.” Finland sent a note of protest to Russia, and all the attackers were detained.
On Friday, November 1, the Finnish Embassy in Moscow was vandalized: unknown persons spilled paint on the fence and threw eggs at the diplomatic mission. Finland sent a note to Russia in connection with the vandalism. This was reported by Yle, UNN reports .

According to Ambassador Marja Liivala, the fence had the words “Åland is ours” written in Swedish. She noted that the act of vandalism was committed by five men. All of them have been detained.
Finland also sent a note to Russia reminding it of its obligation to ensure the safety of the diplomatic mission and its staff.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland called the incident unpleasant and noted that they “take it seriously.

The Åland Islands are an autonomous region within Finland and have a special demilitarized and neutral status. The Geneva Convention of 1921 on the Demilitarization and Neutralization of the Aland Islands was adopted without the participation of Soviet Russia, so Russia has never recognized the neutral status of the islands.
