A man with four previous convictions attacked a serviceman in Odesa, stabbing him with a knife and stealing his personal belongings. Police detained the attacker the next day and seized the stolen property.

In Odesa, police detained an attacker who committed a robbery of a serviceman. The suspect already has a number of convictions and was released from prison only in September this year, UNN reports, citing the police of Odesa region.

The police were informed about the hospitalization of a 36-year-old soldier with a penetrating abdominal wound, a stab wound to the neck and a cut wound to the arm by doctors.

Investigators, together with operatives, found that the victim had been injured by a stranger who also took his belongings. The incident happened around 11 p.m. in a park in the Prymorskyi district. The attacker ran up to the passerby and snatched his cell phone from his hands. The victim tried to take the gadget away, but was stabbed several times by the attacker. When the wounded man fell down, the offender also took his backpack with personal belongings and fled.

The police identified the offender and detained him the next morning on a city street. During the personal search, investigators seized the victim's cell phone, and in the course of operational and search activities found a knife and a stolen backpack, which the offender threw away after committing the crime.

The offender is a visitor and has no permanent residence in Odesa. He has four previous convictions for theft and robbery. Investigators have now served him a notice of suspicion of assault with intent to seize property, combined with violence dangerous to the life or health of the person who was attacked, as well as causing grievous bodily harm, i.e. robbery committed under martial law.

This crime is classified under Part 4 of Art. 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and is punishable by imprisonment for up to 15 years with confiscation of property. At the request of the investigators, the court chose custody as a measure of restraint for the suspect. The investigation is ongoing under the procedural supervision of the Prymorskyi District Prosecutor's Office of Odesa city.
