Russia is considering removing the Taliban from the list of terrorist organizations, but the final decision must be made by the country's top political leadership.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Ministry of Justice and other relevant departments, is "working on the issue" of removing the status of a terrorist organization from the Taliban, UNN reports with reference to the Russian media.
Details
The final decision will be made by the country's top political leadership, the agency added.
Earlier, Zamir Kabulov, the Russian president's special representative for Afghanistan, told the Russian media that the Taliban movement had been invited to the Russia-Islamic World forum, which will be held in Kazan from May 14 to 19.

The Taliban movement was recognized in Russia as a terrorist organization in 2003, after it was included in the relevant list by the UN Security Council. Russia has discussed the removal of this status before: in 2020, Kabulov said that this could happen after the UN Security Council made a similar decision.
