Russia conducts large-scale nuclear exercises

The Russian Federation is conducting nuclear force exercises involving 64,000 military personnel and missile launches. The fleet, aviation, and more than 200 launchers are involved.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the start of exercises to prepare for the use of nuclear forces "under the threat of aggression," Russian media reported, according to UNN.

"In the period from May 19 to 21, 2026, the armed forces of the Russian Federation are conducting exercises on the preparation and use of nuclear forces under the threat of aggression," the Russian Ministry of Defense reported.
The main objectives of the maneuvers will be practicing actions to "deter the enemy" and checking the level of personnel readiness.
In addition, launches of ballistic and cruise missiles at training grounds on Russian territory are planned during the exercises, the Russian MoD noted.
The training involves the Strategic Missile Forces of the Russian Federation, the Pacific Fleet, the Northern Fleet, the Long-Range Aviation Command, and part of the forces of the Leningrad and Central Military Districts.
In total, more than 64,000 military personnel and over 7,800 units of equipment will participate in the maneuvers, including more than 200 missile launchers, over 140 aircraft, 73 surface ships, and 13 submarines, 8 of which are strategic ballistic missile submarines.
