Peru reported the deaths of 11 of its citizens in Russia’s war against Ukraine

Peru’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that 459 Peruvians joined the Russian army, 11 of whom were killed and 114 went missing. Four escaped forced recruitment and returned home.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru officially reported the Peruvian citizens who were killed while fighting on Russia’s side against Ukraine. EFE reports this, as reported by UNN.

It is noted that 459 Peruvians joined the Russian army: 11 of them were killed, 114 are considered missing, and another three were captured by Ukrainian soldiers. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reported that four more Peruvians returned home. According to the ministry, they fled forced recruitment for the war against Ukraine and ended up in Russia.

Diplomats urged Peruvians not to believe fake job offers, as they can lead to involvement in criminal human trafficking networks. They also asked people to report recruiters to the prosecutor’s office and the police.

According to information from the Ministry of Defense’s Main Intelligence Directorate, Russia plans to recruit 18,500 foreigners by the end of 2026. Currently, more than 28,000 citizens of other countries are already serving in the ranks of the enemy army.
