The SBI exposed a deputy head of a military unit who forced his subordinates to work for his family. The soldiers worked for free and gave back part of their combat pay, with the total amount of losses exceeding UAH 3 million.

Law enforcement officers exposed the deputy head of a unit of one of the military units of Donetsk region, who forced his subordinates to work for his family and give part of the illegally accrued combat payments. This was reported by UNN with reference to the State Bureau of Investigation.

According to the SBI, starting in January 2023, four servicemen carried out construction and other work on the territory of the deputy head of the unit's household. They also worked in a kiosk owned by the official's wife. The wife, according to the SBI, controlled and coordinated the work of the military.

In case of refusal to work, the deputy chief threatened to send the servicemen to the front line without proper training

It is noted that the servicemen who worked as handymen for their commander did not report for duty for almost two years, but received full monthly salaries, including additional remuneration for performing combat missions. They gave the lion's share of payments to their “employer”; their work for the official's family was not paid separately.

SBI officers conducted a number of searches, including at the residence of the deputy head of the unit, during which they seized funds, documents, draft records and other property that may indicate illegal activities of the official.

The preliminary amount of losses to the state is over UAH 3 million.

The pre-trial investigation into the abuse of power and official authority committed under martial law, which caused grave consequences (Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) is ongoing.

The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 12 years.
