Non-cash payments have increased quantitatively to 93% of transactions in Ukraine: Ukrainians are increasingly paying with bank cards

In Q3 2023, non-cash payments in Ukraine increased to 93.5% of all card transactions by number, with a total of 1,972.5 million transactions.

Ukrainians continue to prefer cashless payments. Thus, the quantitative share of non-cash transactions in the third quarter of this year is 93.5% of the total number of transactions with payment cards. This was reported by the National Bank of Ukraine, according to UNN.

In total, the number of transactions using payment cards issued by Ukrainian banks in Ukraine and abroad in the third quarter of 2023 amounted to 1,972.5 million, and their amount was UAH 1,407.1 billion. Of these, 1,844.6 million transactions totaling UAH 890.8 billion were non-cash transactions. Thus, their share by amount is 63.3% of the total number of transactions with payment cards, and by number - up to 93.5%.

For comparison, in the second quarter of this year, these figures were 62.1% and 92.8%, respectively. The largest number of card transactions, namely 1358.1 million transactions worth UAH 419.2 billion, by number and amount, were made in the retail network. This is 73.6% and 47.0%, respectively.

The total number of payment cards issued in Ukraine is also growing. At the end of September, it reached 112.4 million units, which is 3% more than in January of this year. The number of contactless payment cards also increased by 12% during this period.
