New streets to be built in Odesa in honor of Ukraine's defenders

The Odesa Regional Administration has decided to rename streets in honor of the heroes who died defending Ukraine. The new names will honor the memory of 10 soldiers, including Vadym Korzhenko, Stanislav Uzikov and others.

The Odesa (military) regional administration  has decided to rename the city's streets in honor of  heroes who died defending Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity. The new streets will be named, in particular, in honor of Vadym Korzhenko, Stanislav Uzikov, Yaroslav Baisov, Artur Savelyev, Yaroslav Bondar, Oleksandr Svishch, Yevhen Tantsyura, Vitaliy Huliaiev, Heorhiy Lipskiy and  Ivan Poundovy, UNN reports.

Details

Vadym Korzhenko was a well-known lieutenant colonel in Odesa who proved himself to be an experienced commander and a loyal patriot. He was killed in action.

Stanislav Uzikov was a junior sergeant who distinguished himself for his bravery during the fighting in eastern Ukraine. He was killed while defending Azovstal.

Yaroslav Baisov is a volunteer soldier who has been fighting for Ukraine's freedom and independence since the first days of the war.

Artur Savelyev was a young soldier who died heroically while performing a combat mission.

Yaroslav Bondar is a combat veteran who participated in many important operations at the front.

Oleksandr Svishch was awarded numerous awards for his courage and self-sacrifice in the defense of the Motherland.

Yevhen Tantsiura is a unit commander known for his steadfastness and dedication.

Vitaliy Guliaev is a colonel, a noted leader who always cared about his subordinates and guided them in the most difficult moments. Knight of the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, III class (2022, posthumously).

Heorhii Lipskyi was an animal rights activist before the war. At the age of 27, he was killed while performing a combat mission in the Kherson region.

Ivan Funtovyi was a marine from Odesa region who was killed during a combat mission in Kherson region.

The initiative is part of a campaign to perpetuate the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for Ukraine and honor their courage and selflessness. A total of 84 streets in Odesa have been renamed. The purpose of these changes is to break the associations with Russian and Soviet history and to strengthen Ukrainian cultural and historical identity. In particular, Armyska, Politikatorzhanska, and Hradonadachanska streets will disappear.
