Estonia demonstrates readiness to sign an agreement with Ukraine to facilitate the mobilization of Ukrainian men of military age living in Estonia
Estonia is ready to conclude an agreement with Ukraine to help mobilize Ukrainian men of military age living in Estonia to the army. This was reported by the Estonian edition of Postimees with reference to the Minister of the Interior of Estonia Lauri Läänemets, UNN reports.
Estonia will not stand aside. We are happy to sign such an agreement and help Ukraine. We have an idea of where these people live in Estonia. We are ready to assist in bringing these people from Estonia to Ukraine if they need it
Details
Lauri Laenemets said that there are about 7,500 Ukrainian citizens of conscription age living in Estonia, but stressed that not all of them are subject to mobilization. For example, it does not apply to those Ukrainian citizens who permanently reside abroad.
"According to Ukrainian law, single parents, parents of at least three children, parents of children with disabilities, and people who are caring for a loved one are also exempt from mobilization. That is, there are quite a few criteria for not being subject to mobilization," explains Laenemets.
According to international law, Ukraine is not able to mobilize Ukrainians who are outside Ukraine. This requires an agreement between the states, and the Estonian Interior Minister noted that Estonia is ready to conclude such an agreement with Ukraine.
Recall
A draft law is currently being developed that would oblige all Ukrainian men in Ukraine or abroad to register for military service. Those who are subject to mobilization will be sent summonses even abroad.
