Marta Kostiuk defeated world number three Coco Hauff in a thrilling three-set quarterfinal match to reach the semifinals of the WTA 500 tournament in Stuttgart, Germany.

Marta Kostiuk reached the semifinals of the WTA 500 tournament in Stuttgart. In the quarterfinals of the competition, the Ukrainian tennis player defeated the third world number three Coco Goff from the United States. This was reported by Suspilne.Sport, according to UNN.

Kostiuk is the only representative of Ukraine in Stuttgart. The Ukrainian started the tournament with a victory in a 3-hour match over Germany's Laura Siegemund, and in the 1/8 finals she made a comeback against the seventh world number one Qin Wen Zheng.

Kostiuk's opponent in the quarterfinals was the reigning US Open champion Coco Goff. It was the third time the two tennis players met in a WTA main draw match, with the American winning both previous matches, including the quarterfinals of the Australian Open 2024, in three sets.

Kostiuk won the biggest victory of her career, beating a top-3 player for the first time.

In the semifinals, Kostyuk will face reigning Wimbledon champion Markáta Vondroušová from the Czech Republic.

  • In the first set, Kostiuk broke back twice after losing serves, but failed to do so for the third time: Goff took a 5-3 lead with a break and eventually closed out the game with a second set point.
  • The next game began with an exchange of breaks, with Goff initially taking a 4-2 lead. However, Kostiuk managed to turn the tide of the match: first, she leveled the score (4:4), and with a 5:4 advantage, she earned a set point on the American's serve and converted it, restoring parity in the game.
  • At the beginning of the deciding set, Kostyuk failed to take a 2-0 lead as Goff broke back to win three break points. In the next game, the American broke, which Marta soon broke back.
  • With the score 5-4 in her favor, Kostyuk earned three match points on Goff's serve, but the American won them all. In the next game, Goff broke, but Marta managed to break back and take the set to a tiebreak.
  • In the tiebreak, Kostyuk earned four match points, leading 6-2, and Goff won them all again, but in the end, the Ukrainian took the next two games and thus the match. Kostiuk realized the eighth match point and won in 2 hours and 50 minutes.
