Ukraine expects to commission the first power unit based on AR1000 technology at Khmelnytsky NPP by 2028-2029. It will add about 1,200 MW to the grid and strengthen energy independence.
The first in Ukraine power unit based on AR1000 technology is to start operating at Khmelnytskyi NPP in 2028-2029. This was announced by the President of NNEGC Energoatom Petro Kotin on the air telethon, UNN reports.
A great event happened this Sunday. We signed a contract for the supply of a reactor island for one of the power units at Khmelnytsky NPP. This power unit has been under construction for about five years. According to Mr. Kotin, the new power unit, to be built by Westinghouse , will add almost 1,200 MW to the grid. This will be the largest power unit in the Ukrainian energy system, which will strengthen Ukraine's energy independence.
Also, the President of Energoatom's president also noted that AP1000 technology is currently the safest in the world.
