On Saturday, the current president, Tamas Sulyok, signed a constitutional amendment law that terminates his powers. This fulfilled one of Peter Magyar's key campaign promises to replace senior officials appointed during the rule of former Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
Magyar emphasized that the presidency is the "highest form of public service," and that Polgar, in his opinion, is capable of representing all citizens of the country and promoting the strengthening of unity.
