How to check your work experience, correct errors, and not lose years
Kyiv • UNN
Ukrainians can find out about their insurance record through the PFU portal, the Diia application, or at the fund's branches. To receive a pension at 60, 30 years of service are required.

Work experience in Ukraine is a key component for the appointment of pensions, social benefits, and other state guarantees. At the same time, many Ukrainians do not know the exact number of their credited "working" years. There are several reasons: from changes in the accounting system to the transition to electronic registers and the dependence of data on employer reporting.
UNN investigated how not to lose years of work, check your work experience, and do everything necessary to receive your earned pension on time.
How to check your work experience through the portal of the Pension Fund of Ukraine
The most complete information about work experience can be obtained through the web portal of the Pension Fund of Ukraine. To do this, you need to create a personal account and go through authorization.
Access is possible using a qualified electronic signature (QES), the BankID system, and Diia.Signature.
After logging in, the user gets access to personal data, including:
- general insurance record;
- periods of employment;
- employer data;
- amounts of accrued wages;
- information on the payment of a single social contribution.
This information is formed based on reports submitted by employers. If the employer did not submit reports or did not pay contributions, information about this period of employment may be missing from the system.
Personalized accounting data: how it helps and how to use it
Since 2000, a personalized accounting system has been operating in Ukraine. It is from this time that information about work experience is recorded electronically.
Periods of work before the introduction of this system are confirmed by entries in the work book, certificates from enterprises, and archival documents. This data can be entered into the electronic register by digitizing it.
How to check work experience through the "Diia" application
The "Diia" mobile application provides access to some information about employment. The user can view the electronic work book if the relevant data has been previously entered into the register.
In particular, the mobile application for administrative services displays records of employment, records of dismissal, and some information about employers.
At the same time, "Diia" does not always contain the full amount of information about insurance experience, as the data may be incomplete or not yet digitized.
How to get information about work experience at the Pension Fund branch
If it is impossible to use the Internet or a person cannot pass electronic identification, you can always contact the territorial body of the Pension Fund of Ukraine.
In order to obtain the necessary information about your work experience, you need to provide your passport and taxpayer registration number.
At the PFU branch, you can:
- get an extract about insurance experience;
- submit an application for data clarification;
- add documents to confirm missing
periods.
In some cases, fund employees may send requests to archival institutions or former employers.

What is included in the insurance record
Insurance experience is determined based on the periods during which the employer paid a single social contribution for their employee.
It includes:
- work under an employment contract;
- entrepreneurial activity, provided that the SSC is paid;
- military service;
- maternity leave (within the limits defined by
legislation);
- periods of unemployment benefits;
- certain types of social benefits provided by law.
Not included:
- informal employment;
- periods without contributions;
- work under civil law contracts without
accrual of SSC.
Minimum experience requirements for pension
In Ukraine, a phased increase in the requirements for insurance experience for retirement by age has been established. As of recent years, to retire at 60, you must have at least 30 years of experience. In case of insufficient experience, the retirement age may be increased.
Therefore, checking work experience is important both for controlling personal data and for planning future social guarantees.
How to correct errors in data
If there is an inaccuracy in the information about work experience, you must contact the Pension Fund of Ukraine.
The following may be required to correct the data:
- work book;
- certificates from places of work;
- orders for hiring or dismissal;
- archival documents.
If the enterprise where the person worked was liquidated, the experience is confirmed through archival institutions or a court.
Electronic work book and work experience: what you need to know
Ukraine is in the process of transitioning to electronic work books. Employers are gradually transferring data to the register, and employees can independently upload scanned copies of documents through the Pension Fund portal.
After verification, this data is taken into account in the insurance record. Digitization allows information to be stored centrally and reduces dependence on paper documents.
Why it is important to regularly check your work experience
Data on work experience is formed based on reports, which may contain errors or be submitted with a delay. If insurance contributions for the corresponding period were not received or information about them is missing, these months and years are not automatically credited to the person's total work experience.
Regular verification allows timely detection of discrepancies, contacting the PFU to correct them, and avoiding complications when applying for a pension or social benefits.
The Pension Fund emphasizes: control over one's own insurance record is a necessary condition for receiving the full amount of state-guaranteed benefits.
Recall
The other day, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine allowed confirming work experience for a pension without a work book. Deputies adopted a law on the use of electronic registers for pension appointments. Experience will be credited even if the employer has arrears in contributions.
