On July 19, an unidentified person shot at Iryna Farion, a linguist and professor at Lviv Polytechnic. The woman was taken to the hospital with a head wound in an extremely serious condition. Iryna Farion died in the hospital.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reportedthat on July 25, an 18-year-old man was detained in the city of Dnipro, allegedly involved in the premeditated murder of Iryna Farion.

According to Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko , law enforcement officials have enough evidence to claim that it was an 18-year-old boy detained in Dnipro who shot at linguist Iryna Farion. According to him, the investigation lasted 139 hours.

The police reported earlier that they had several versions of the murder of linguist Iryna Farion, including public and political activities and personal animosity. Law enforcement officers found a shell casing after the shooting and do not rule out a "Russian trace" in the crime.

Law enforcement officers notified that an 18-year-old resident of Dnipro is suspected of murdering Irina Farion. 

On July 26, at 13:00, the Halytskyi District Court of Lviv is expected to hear the case of choosing a preventive measure against the 18-year-old suspect in the murder of Irina Farion.

Prosecutors will insist on applying a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention without bail to the 18-year-old suspect in the murder of linguist Irina Farion.
