A Russian missile hits the Osnovyansky district of Kharkiv, damaging a school and a kindergarten; an investigation is underway.
The Kharkiv regional prosecutor's office announced the launch of an investigation into the violation of the laws and customs of war due to an enemy strike on Kharkiv's civilian infrastructure the night before, UNN reports.

It is noted that on January 2, at about 22:45, the Russian armed forces launched a missile attack on the civilian infrastructure of the Osnovyansky district of Kharkiv. The shelling partially destroyed a school and damaged a kindergarten building. Windows were smashed in residential buildings.
Law enforcement officers seized fragments of a S-300 missile.
"...a pre-trial investigation has been initiated into the violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the statement said.
