EU court dismisses claims of oligarch Deripaska and two Russian banks against sanctions

The Court of Justice of the European Union has dismissed the claims filed by Oleg Deripaska, Rosbank and Tinkoff Bank to lift sanctions. Deripaska was also denied compensation for non-pecuniary damage of one million euros.
The European Union Court of Justice has dismissed the claims of Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska, as well as Rosbank and Tinkoff Bank, which challenged the sanctions imposed against them in connection with Russia's aggression in Ukraine. UNN reports this with reference to DW.
The court completely dismissed all three appeals, including Deripaska's claim for compensation for non-pecuniary damage from the restrictions, which he estimated at one million euros.
Deripaska was sanctioned by the EU in 2022 for actions that undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, and then in 2024 for circumventing previous restrictions and material support of the Russian government.
Rosbank and Tinkoff Bank filed claims with the court on a number of grounds, including the failure to specify the reasons for the sanctions, an error in the assessment of facts, abuse of power by the EU Council, violation of the principle of proportionality, violation of the principle of equality and non-discrimination, etc.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has confirmed that the EU is already working on the 16th package of sanctions against Russia. Previous sanctions have already led to a fall in the ruble and an increase in inflation in some sectors of the Russian economy by up to 70%.
