John M. Chu explained why Wicked was divided into two films instead of one. The director emphasized that this approach would allow him to better reveal the key moments of the story and the emotional journey of the characters.
"Wicked: The Enchantress" covers only the first act of the musical, the movie itself seems complete thanks to its dynamic pacing and ending. John M. Chu explained that this is one of the key decisions that made the movie possible in the first place.

When asked about the decision to split Wicked into two films, John M. Chu said the following:
I had to come in and say: "We have to make a choice with this." You can't make a good one or two movies by dancing back and forth. Make two movies right now, otherwise we will never make these two movies good. And once you make that commitment, you can take this thing apart and find what we need.
In fact, it was about stepping back from Defying Gravity, Chu explained.
We found that the perspective of the movie had to be different from the series. In the show, Galinda goes down on her bubble, and she is actually the host of the evening. It's a kind of vaudeville. She draws you into the story.
John M. Chu explained that it's important for the audience to accept the world you're building in the first 10 minutes of a movie.
It is noted that the decision to divide the story into two parts allows each key moment, especially the ending of Defying Gravity, to shine in all its glory.
There are small moments that we are just tracking to make Defying Gravity the end of this movie. Complete your emotional journey, be satisfied with the choices you've made, and then the second movie is the consequences.

Lorna Luft, the daughter of Judy Garland, the unforgettable Dorothy Gale from The Wizard of Oz, saw Wicked and wanted to express her enthusiasm for John M. Chu's film.
"It was filmed with such love and respect. Cynthia and Ariana are just wonderful! They take you on an emotional roller coaster, so you better hold on tight. Vocally, they are both phenomenal. Their performances are honest, subtle, funny, absolutely perfect."
