The chief inspector of the State Inspectorate of Architecture and Urban Planning in Sumy region was accused of extorting a bribe of UAH 40,000 from village council officials for issuing a certificate for a repaired water tower and artesian well.

In Sumy region, the chief inspector of the State Inspectorate for Architecture and Urban Development in Sumy region has been charged with a corruption scandal. According to the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office, he is charged with extortion of a bribe of 40 thousand hryvnias. The inspector demanded this amount from officials of the village council for speeding up the procedure for obtaining a certificate for a water tower and an artesian well after major repairs.
According to the preliminary investigation, the inspector received an advance payment of UAH 20 thousand and then provided a positive opinion required to obtain the certificate. After handing over the rest of the money, which was supposed to be the agreed amount, he was detained on March 22, 2024.
The court decided to impose a preventive measure against the chief inspector in the form of detention, but granted bail in the amount of UAH 212 thousand.
