Cable car collapse in Kyiv: 5 people under suspicion in case of young man's death, including manager and expert

Five people have been notified of suspicion in the case of the death of a 20-year-old man on a cable car across the Dnipro. The suspects include the company's director, an inspection expert, and a technical supervision engineer.
Information about the tragedy with the cable car across the Dnipro River in the Ukrainian capital has emerged. Among them: an expert of a private expert institution, the head of the enterprise. A number of miscalculations that led to the incident with the cable break, which resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man, were also revealed .

Five people have been served with notices of suspicion in the case of the death of a young man on a cable car across the Dnipro River in Kyiv in July 2024.
This is the director of the company that won the tender for the construction of the cable car;
an expert from a private expert institution who reviewed the attraction,
A sole proprietor who had been operating a cable car since 2024 (part 2 of Article 272 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine),
former technical supervision engineer of Pleso Municipal Enterprise (part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The pre-trial investigation, based on the results of the examinations, found that the designer of the attraction had made a number of mistakes.
In particular, it provides for the use of a rope that cannot be used for amusement rides due to its functional purpose.
This mistake eventually led to the rope breaking.

Thus, on July 21, 2024, while a 20-year-old man was on the ride, the steel rope of the cable car broke, causing him to fall into the Dnipro River and die.

In April 2024, before the attraction was transferred to the sole proprietor's management to obtain a permit to perform high-risk work, an examination of the rope crossing was carried out. However, the expert of a private expert institution accredited by the State Labor Service of Ukraine did not pay attention to the inconsistency of the installed rope with the intended purpose.
In turn, the sole proprietor who operated the attraction, according to the instructions, had to inspect it daily before starting work and respond to the improper condition of the rope.
The former technical supervision engineer of Pleso, who is responsible for the safe operation of the utility company's facilities, was also required by his job description to exercise proper control over the condition of the attraction.
