Details

According to British intelligence, the husband of a well-known Russian influencer, Elena Blinovskaya, joined the military campaign of the Russian armed forces in Ukraine to prevent her from going to prison on charges of tax evasion.

On April 16, 2024, Alexei Blinovsky was recorded serving in a specially created military unit of the Russian armed forces known as Bars-Kaskad near Ukraine.

This unit was reportedly created by Dmitry Sablin, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma for Defense.

The unit is mainly involved in operations with unmanned aerial vehicles, usually far from the front line. It has been operating since October 2022, and includes at least 10 members of the United Russia party and sons of Kremlin VIPs.

According to available data, enrolled VIPs are provided with security.

Enrollment in the Bars Cascade likely allows Russian elite figures to circumvent mandatory military service requirements in Russia with guaranteed security and potentially win favor with the Kremlin

- British intelligence said.

The British Ministry of Defense also noted that Blinovsky's case is the first recorded case of a person joining a unit to help a family member avoid prison.
