The Italian coast guard reported that six people are still missing, including Lynch and three other British citizens. A total of 22 people were on board when the ship was caught in a severe thunderstorm on Monday.
A person familiar with the situation said that Lynch's wife, Angela Bacarez, was among those who managed to escape.
At the same time, the captain of the boat who rescued the people, Carsten Borner, told RAI TV that “the boat turned over on its side and sank within a few minutes. It all happened in a very short time.
“After the storm was over, we noticed that the yacht behind us had disappeared,” he said.
The publication emphasized that the yacht Bayesian, which is registered in the UK, was sailing off the northern coast of the Italian island near the capital Palermo.
A person familiar with the matter said that the yacht most likely belonged to Lynch.
“In the 1990s, Lynch founded the company Autonomy, which was bought by the American technology company Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion in 2011. In 2018, the US government charged Lynch with fraud after Hewlett-Packard wrote off $8.8 billion related to the deal and said it was defrauded into overpaying because of what it said were intentionally inflated financial statements,” the WSJ reported.
