Apple may integrate Gemini AI into new iPhones
Kyiv • UNN
Apple is in talks with Google to license its Gemini AI for integration into future iPhones, potentially enabling text generation, image creation, and other AI capabilities on iOS devices.
Apple's report, which was published today, refers to negotiations on licensing Gemini for future iPhones, UNN writes with reference to Bloomberg.
Details
The published report refers to the negotiations between the parties regarding the licensing of Gemini for new iPhone features that will be introduced this year. This includes the ability to generate text, create images, and other features that are not currently available on iOS.
Apple is also considering cooperation with OpenAI to use their model.
If the deal with Google is successful, it will build on their partnership in search. For years, Google has already been paying Apple billions of dollars to keep their search as the main search engine in Safari. Terms of the deal and branding details are yet to be determined.
On the one hand, this could give Gemini access to billions of iPhone users. On the other hand, it may indicate that Apple has not made as much progress in developing its own artificial intelligence as expected.
This could also lead to increased antitrust pressure on both companies.
Apple is preparing new AI features in iOS 18, but they will run locally on devices, not in the cloud. Therefore, a partnership with Google can help them gain access to more powerful capabilities.
Recall
Apple has acquired DarwinAI, a Canadian company that specializes in monitoring manufacturing components and optimizing AI models to improve production efficiency and potentially enable AI on iOS 18 devices.
