A 57-year-old foreigner who lived on the stairs of a building in Pechersk fatally stabbed a 40-year-old janitor. The attacker, who had previously been convicted, was arrested the next day.

A foreigner who had been living in the stairwell of a house in the Pechersk district of Kyiv for 10 years will be tried for the murder of a utility company employee. This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, UNN reports.

Details

An indictment was sent to court against a 57-year-old man, a citizen of another state, who is accused of premeditated murder (Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, in July 2024, when a 40-year-old employee of a Pechersk district utility company was returning home, he met an aggressive foreigner on Bohomoltsia Street. As a result of a verbal conflict, the passerby suddenly stabbed the janitor in the temple with a knife he was carrying and fled.

The janitor was seriously injured. Passers-by who happened to see him called an ambulance, which took the wounded man to the hospital. A few days later, the victim died in the hospital without regaining consciousness.

In the course of operational and investigative measures, the day after the crime was committed, the suspect was detained - a 57-year-old foreign citizen who had already been sentenced to 7 years in prison in 2010 for causing grievous bodily harm to a resident of the Pechersk district. However, after serving 4 years of his sentence, he was released under an amnesty.

After serving his sentence, the man returned to Kyiv and lived in the stairwell of a residential building in the Pechersk district of Kyiv for almost 10 years.

Due to the expiration date of the documents, the foreigner was subject to deportation from Ukraine, but, given his vagrant lifestyle, the instructions were not fulfilled.

During his arrest on suspicion of murdering the janitor, clothes with traces of blood were seized from him, although the detainee claimed it was spilled tea.

The accused is currently in custody in the Kyiv pre-trial detention center. He faces a sentence of imprisonment for a term of 7 to 15 years.

Recall

The Galician District Court of Lviv has extended the detention of the suspect in the murder of Irina Farion for another 60 days. The man, who was detained in Dnipro, will be held without bail until January 12, 2025.
