The US and Iran are working with mediators to draft a one-page, 14-point memorandum of understanding that would set parameters for a month of negotiations to end the war, people familiar with the matter said.

"Negotiations could resume as early as next week in Islamabad, Pakistan," the publication states.

The publication also reports that Iran has, for the first time, expressed openness to discussing its nuclear program.

And that the working document contains a call for Iran to loosen its control over the Strait of Hormuz. It is also envisioned, according to the publication, that the US would lift the blockade of Iranian ports during the 30 days of negotiations.

Both sides are also discussing the possible removal of some of Iran's stockpiles of highly enriched uranium abroad. Iran remains opposed to transferring nuclear material to the US, an Iranian official said. Details regarding the duration of any suspension of enrichment by Iran or the possible removal of enriched uranium from the country remain unresolved.

The issue of Iran's permanent role in controlling the strait also remains unsettled.

It is also reported that the extent of any sanctions relief is a subject of discussion and could stall the negotiations.

If the negotiations progress, the one-month period could be extended by mutual agreement.

According to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Iran is considering the proposal.

US officials said that many documents with potential agreements have been sent between Washington, Tehran, and the capitals of mediating countries.

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump stated that the US would return to bombing Iran if the Islamic Republic does not agree to a deal.
