Trump called the reception at the NBA game amazing, even though fans loudly booed him. The President claimed the city's love despite criticism and ridicule online.

U.S. President Donald Trump reposted a video online claiming that "New York loves" him—hours after he was booed during a New York Knicks NBA game, The Independent reports, according to UNN.

Details

The video, shared on Truth Social just after 2:00 a.m. local time on Tuesday following the New York Knicks' crushing defeat to the San Antonio Spurs, shows a crowd watching the presidential motorcade pass through Midtown Manhattan on its way to Madison Square Garden.

Some onlookers cheered, while others booed the president. The video shows several people chanting "Trump, Trump, Trump," while other chants were indistinguishable.

In the video shared by Trump, at least one person can be heard singing "Donald Trump is coming to town" to the tune of the famous Christmas song "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."

"Despite Trump's claims that New York 'loves' him, it was not so obvious during Monday night's game at Madison Square Garden. The crowd loudly booed the president when he appeared on the Jumbotron during the performance of the national anthem," the publication states.

"The president watched the game from a private box and appeared unfazed by the booing, which at times drowned out the anthem sung by Broadway actor Avery Wilson," the outlet points out.

Basketball fans, the publication writes, were also captured on video mocking Trump at watch parties across the city, including at Bryant Park. The booing also continued on 34th Street as Trump's motorcade departed after the Knicks' loss, as shown in videos posted on X, the outlet writes.

After leaving the game, Trump was asked about the reception he received from Knicks fans.

"I thought it was great, I mean, I thought it was actually amazing. You mean when they put the camera on me? I thought it was very good. It was definitely amazing. I think it was mostly cheers. It was loud and very enthusiastic," Trump told reporters near Air Force One on Monday night.

Knicks fans online reacted quite differently, the outlet points out.

At the historic game, where the Spurs fended off a mid-game Knicks rally to win 115-111, Trump was joined by family, friends, and White House staff.

He sat next to his granddaughter Kai Trump, Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, and Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino, as well as Knicks owner James Dolan. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver also reportedly stopped by to speak with Trump during the game.

"Trump faced even more mockery online after he appeared to fall asleep during the game," the outlet points out.
