The United States expects to receive the right to the revenues that Ukraine is already receiving from a number of resources. This was stated in an interview with FOX Business by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, reports UNN.
Details
In an interview with the media, the newly appointed head of the US financial department spoke about the results of his trip to Kyiv.
Bessent noted the purpose of the trip - it is to gain an understanding of the following:
(Ukrainians can understand) that we (the US) expect accountability, but that we want to be their partners on the other side, and that the American people will participate in Ukraine's post-war economy.
US involvement in post-war Ukraine could include strategic minerals, energy, and state-owned enterprises
At the same time, he noted that partnership with the United States gives Ukrainian business a new level of transparency.
Scott Bessent also stated that he visited Ukraine this week to "further bring the United States closer to the Ukrainian people."
The US Treasury Secretary noted:
The US must see the value created for Americans in post-war Ukraine.
The real return will be when the conflict ends and Ukraine begins to rebuild
Possible deal on rare earth metals
An economic agreement involving rare earth materials is the first step in Trump's deal to restore peace between Ukraine and Russia, Bessent believes.
The official explained how this fits into a broader peace agreement:
This will show the Russians that we have a strong alliance with Ukraine, and also more assets that the US government, American organizations have on the ground in Ukraine - this should act as a deterrent in the long run to any new invasions by the Russians.
Recall
Ukraine has the largest uranium and lithium reserves in Europe and is among the top 10 in titanium ore. Shmyhal announced his readiness to cooperate with the EU in the extraction and processing of these resources.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a conversation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha. He reaffirmed unwavering support for Ukraine's independence.
