The Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the strike on the Balaklava Thermal Power Plant in Sevastopol in the temporarily occupied Crimea, reports UNN.
The SOF struck the thermal power plant in Sevastopol. This is almost 50% of the electricity generation of the occupied Crimea
As stated, "underground members of the SOF Resistance Movement together with Deep Strike units of the Special Operations Forces conducted an operation to strike the Balaklava Thermal Power Plant in Sevastopol, TOT AR Crimea." The strike occurred on the night of July 14.
"Preliminarily, as a result of the attack, the machine hall with the cooling system of one of the Siemens SGT5-2000E turbines was damaged. If the pumping equipment is damaged, repairs may take from 2 to 5 months," reported in the SOF.
The Balaklava Thermal Power Plant, as stated, is the energy backbone of the peninsula. Together with the Tavriyska Thermal Power Plant (Simferopol), the station provides about 90% of Crimea's energy consumption. These are the two pillars of its own electricity generation.
Occupied Crimea, the SOF emphasized, is a military-logistics hub of the Russian army. Stable electricity supply is critically important for communication nodes, command centers, radar stations, electronic warfare systems, air defense systems, repair plants, the Black Sea Fleet, military airfields, and other enemy military infrastructure. Striking electricity generation facilities on the Crimean bridgehead significantly undermines the offensive and defensive capabilities of the Russian army, reduces the operational tempo and stability of logistical support, the Special Operations Forces noted.
