A four-year-old child was killed after a tree fell on their home in the town of Geneva, Indiana, Jennings County Chief Deputy Sheriff Cody Lowe said.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said one person died after flooding prevented rescuers from reaching them in Roseville.
Local media also reported that one person was killed in an explosion and fire at a house that occurred after storms passed through Portage, Indiana. Police said the cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
More than 800,000 electricity customers in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky were without power as of midnight local time on Tuesday, according to the poweroutage.us website.
"Even after the storms leave the state, flooding will remain a serious problem," the governor of Ohio said.
