SBU classifies Russian strike on nuclear fuel storage facility near Chornobyl NPP as a war crime

The SBU has opened a case regarding a drone strike on a nuclear storage facility near the Chornobyl NPP. Buildings and the IAEA facility were damaged; the radiation level remains within normal limits.

The SBU qualifies the strike on the building of the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility near the Chornobyl NPP as a war crime. Criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding this fact. This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine, according to UNN.

Investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine consider the Russian strike on the building of the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility, located near the Chornobyl NPP, to be a war crime. Criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine

According to the SBU, the Russian armed forces carried out this strike using a "Geran-2" type unmanned aerial vehicle at 02:05 AM on June 7. Specific elements of the drone have already been found at the site of the impact.

As a result of the explosion, the spent nuclear fuel reception and re-loading building and the IAEA administrative building were damaged.

It was also established that the strike did not affect the storage facility's production process. The radiation background is within normal limits, and there are no dead or injured. Investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine, under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, are taking comprehensive measures to find and punish those involved in this attack
