President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that delaying the European integration process could give Russia the opportunity to block Ukraine's path to European Union membership. At the same time, Kyiv is counting on accelerated progress toward accession and seeks to obtain the same conditions as other candidate countries. Zelenskyy made this statement during a conversation with journalists on the sidelines of the G7 summit, reports UNN with reference to The Guardian.

During the conversation, the President commented on his meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and his idea regarding Ukraine's associate membership in the EU.
Zelenskyy spoke positively of the German Chancellor's position, emphasizing that he consistently supports Ukraine and understands Kyiv's desire to accelerate integration into the European Union.
At the same time, the Head of State warned that delays in advancing the negotiation process create additional risks.
"If this does not happen, Russia will find a way to block Ukraine's path to the European Union. They do not want to see us successful,"
The President emphasized that Ukraine is not asking for special conditions for itself in the EU accession process.
"We want the same membership as other countries. Not better, but not worse either,"
Separately, Zelenskyy reported that during the meeting with Merz, the parties discussed further defense support for Ukraine, particularly the strengthening of air defense systems.
Furthermore, responding to a question regarding a possible conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping, the President stated that he is ready to contact any world leader who can contribute to ending the war.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine is open to dialogue with all parties capable of helping to bring about a just peace.
