Preparing a terrorist attack in Zhytomyr disguised as a courier — SBU detains Russian agent

The SBU has detained a woman who was preparing an explosion in Zhytomyr under the guise of a courier. An improvised explosive device and chemical components were seized from the perpetrator. She faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The National Police and counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have thwarted a new attempt by the Russians to carry out a terrorist attack in Zhytomyr. This was reported by UNN with reference to the SBU.

Details

The investigation established that a woman, posing as a courier, was supposed to deliver a postal shipment containing an improvised explosive device (IED) to a premises.

After the delivery of the "parcel," Russian intelligence services planned to detonate it remotely.

The detainee turned out to be a resident of Izmail, Odesa region, who is drug-dependent and was recruited by the enemy while searching for "quick money."

After recruitment, she was "dispatched" to Zhytomyr, where she rented an apartment and, under the guidance of handlers, manufactured an improvised explosive device.

During a search of the detainee's rented apartment, a completed IED, chemical components for manufacturing homemade explosives, a courier uniform, and a smartphone with evidence of preparations for the assassination attempt were seized.

The detainee was notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment from 15 years to life, with confiscation of property.

Recall

The Security Service of Ukraine detained a recidivist in Mykolaiv who was directing enemy missiles at AFU positions. The detainee faces up to 12 years in prison and is currently in custody.
