Hungarian Prime Minister Orban said that Europe will be forced to reconsider its support for Ukraine if Trump wins the US election. According to him, the continent will not be able to bear the “burden” of the war on its own.

Europe will have to reconsider its support for Ukraine if Donald Trump is elected US president, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Sunday. According to him, the continent "will not be able to bear the burden of war alone." Reuters reports, UNN reports.

Orban, who opposes military aid to Ukraine, has made it clear that he believes Trump shares his views and will negotiate a peaceful settlement for Ukraine.

"We (in Europe) have to realize that if America has a president who is pro-peace, which I not only believe in, but I read the numbers... if what we expect happens and America becomes peaceful, then Europe cannot remain pro-military," Orban said.

According to him, Ukraine will be one of the main issues on the agenda of the meeting of European leaders in Budapest next week, referring to the meeting of the European Political Community and a more informal meeting of EU leaders to be held.

"Europe cannot bear the burden (of war - ed.) alone, and if the Americans switch to peace, we also need to adapt, and this is what we will discuss in Budapest," Orban said.

Addendum

Orban has angered Brussels with his close ties to Russia and his opposition to providing aid to Ukraine.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said in July that the Hungarian government sees Trump as a "chance for peace" in Ukraine.

In July, Orban said that his team was helping Trump's aides on family and migration policies. On Thursday, he called Trump to wish him good luck ahead of Tuesday's election.
