President of Moldova Maia Sandu is initiating the creation of an interceptor drone production industry due to the threat from the Russian Federation. Moldova plans to adopt technologies and experience from Ukraine.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu stated that the war in neighboring Ukraine has shown that her country is in dire need of high-tech interceptor drones, and new legislation is required to facilitate their production. This was reported by Reuters, according to UNN.

It is noted that Moldova, which aims to join the European Union by 2030, has faced numerous incidents where Russian drones flew over its territory or debris landed in areas near the border.

Sandu, a fierce critic of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, expressed particular concern last month regarding a drone that struck a residential building in Galați, a Romanian city near the border with Moldova and Ukraine, injuring two people

- the article states.

Sandu noted in a podcast with a local blogger that Moldova, which is defined as a neutral state, needs legislation to allow for the development of its arms industry.

"Those who want our country to be completely defenseless must understand that there is a risk of drones falling on us, and we will be unable to do anything about it. I have asked the government, especially in the context of recent events, to begin introducing or preparing legislative changes,"

- the Moldovan President said.

According to her, this legislation will allow for the creation of public-private partnerships for weapons development and will also include provisions for attracting foreign investors. At the same time, Moldova has already begun consultations on drone development with Ukraine, which has gained experience over more than four years of countering Russian drones and is focusing on the production of interceptors.

"The Ukrainians are the best in terms of interceptor drones. We will try to obtain technology from there as much as possible within our capabilities. To use these technologies, we must first create a team of experts,"

- Sandu summarized.

The publication adds that the Moldovan military took no action in more than 20 instances where Russian drones entered the country's airspace or drone debris landed near populated areas.
