Kyiv is experiencing a high level of atmospheric air pollution due to meteorological conditions, particularly low wind speed. This was reported on Thursday by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, writes UNN.

Details

According to the Kyiv City State Administration, a high level of air pollution is currently maintained in Kyiv and its surroundings. The reasons are meteorological conditions (in particular, low wind speed was observed), which in turn contributes to the accumulation of harmful substances in the surface layer of the air, since harmful substances from various emission sources (industry, transport, and others) were almost not dispersed.

- reported the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

At the same time, the accumulation of harmful substances in the surface layer of atmospheric air, as noted, is facilitated by humidity (fog), which was observed in the morning. Moisture particles adsorb and retain solid substances that are in the atmospheric air in a suspended state on their surface.

As reported by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, an anticyclone, weak wind (1-5 m/s), and possible accumulation of local pollution, especially in large cities (transport emissions), and in the area of thermal power plants, were predicted for February 13.

How to reduce negative health effects

  • If possible, do not stay outdoors, especially during periods of intense smoke.
    • Keep windows and doors closed to prevent smoke from entering the premises.
      • Maintain water balance. Drink plenty of water.
        • Use a mask or respirator, as well as an air purifier.
          • Use air purifiers.
            • Do wet cleaning of premises.

People with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases should pay special attention to these tips.

              Addition

In Kyiv, there is a high level of air pollution, with an increase in the concentration of suspended solids recorded.

Earlier, UNN wrote that a cloud of polluted air is expected to cover Ukraine in the middle of the week. Air quality will worsen by more than 300 units. Zhytomyr will be most affected with a level of 317 units, and the pollution will also affect Kharkiv - 91 units, Kyiv - 83 units, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
