CDU candidate for Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz criticized the European policy of current German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, calling it a “complete failure,” reports UNN with reference to Deutsche Welle.
“Unfortunately, it has to be stated: most European heads of state and government no longer want to meet the German federal chancellor, who either sits silent for hours or explains the world order with edification,” Merz said in an edition of his MerzMail podcast.
He also called the European policy of the current FRG government a “complete failure.
To back up his assertion with an example, the Christian Democrat recalled French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Poland last week. During the visit, the NATO allies discussed policy toward Ukraine.
“Once again, the German federal chancellor was absent,” Merz wrote.
In addition, the current German government, according to Merz, demonstrates “a clear indifference to European politics”. According to him, this attitude is not only harmful to Germany itself, but is also becoming an increasingly serious obstacle to European politics and Germany's relations with its EU neighbors.
In this regard, the candidate for Chancellor from the CDU recalled that before the grand opening of the restored Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, Macron met with the President-elect of the United States Donald Trump and the head of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
“The German chancellor was also invited, but apparently found no desire to go to Paris,” Friedrich Merz wrote.
Recall
Friedrich Merz advocates cutting social benefits for Ukrainian refugees in Germany. Instead, he proposes to grant them an immediate right to employment without obligatory language learning.
