Today, April 17 is Fire Protection Day in Ukraine and World Hemophilia Day, reports UNN.
This professional holiday was established by a presidential decree in 2013, "taking into account the significant contribution of employees of the fire protection of Ukraine to the fight against fire, protecting the lives and health of people, property from fires, in support of the initiative of public associations and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine".
Fire protection workers celebrate their professional holiday twice a year: September 17 – together with other employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES of Ukraine) on the Rescuer's Day, and April 17 – on the Day of Fire Protection of Ukraine.
World Hemophilia Day
On April 17, many countries around the world hold various events to mark World Hemophilia Day.
Hemophilia is a hereditary disease associated with blood clotting. The life and health of patients depends on blood clotting drugs. These drugs are expensive, so patients with hemophilia and von Willebrand's disease are provided with medicines by the state.
In newborns with hemophilia, the protein needed for normal blood clotting is absent or at a very low level. These proteins are called blood clotting factors.
When blood vessels are damaged, clotting factors help platelets to connect with each other to close the damaged areas.
In people with hemophilia, blood does not clot quickly enough because clotting factors are absent or very low.
There are two main types of hemophilia: hemophilia A – the so-called classical hemophilia, and hemophilia B – Christmas disease.
Hemophilia, with very rare exceptions, occurs only in men. Hemophilia A affects approximately 1 in 5,000-10,000, while hemophilia B affects approximately 1 in 40,000, men at birth. Some women with a non-functional gene on one of the X chromosomes may have mild symptoms.
If a woman has this defective gene, she can pass it on to her children. If she has a son, the probability that he will have hemophilia is 50%. If a daughter is born, the probability that she will become a carrier of the hemophilia gene is also 50%.
A man with hemophilia cannot pass this disease on to his sons, but all his daughters will be carriers of the hemophilia gene.
Hemophilia is usually diagnosed when a child turns one year old. He becomes more active, and accordingly the risk of injury and bleeding increases.
Hemophilia is an incurable disease. People who suffer from this disease use supportive drug therapy, and should minimize the risks of any injury.
For a long time, the average age to which people with hemophilia lived was only 30 years. Thanks to the advent of more effective drugs, people with this disease have been able to live longer.

Great Thursday
This year, Great Thursday falls on April 17 and has a special place among the days of Holy Week. On this day, the Church commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his disciples, the apostles, before his death on the Cross. At this supper, the Savior established the main church Sacrament – the Sacrament of the Eucharist, or Communion.
This day is one of the most important in the Christian calendar, believers commemorate the Last Supper and the suffering of Jesus Christ. In the evening, the succession of the Holy and Saving Passions of the Lord takes place, and after the veneration of the Cross, some believers spend a night vigil. This day reminds believers of the meaning of the Eucharist and that Christ came to earth to free humanity from sins and grant eternal life.
In addition, April 17 is the day of the holy venerable Simeon of Persia and Akakius of Meletius.
