A former foreign military instructor who worked for the FSB has been sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in prison, UNN reports, citing the Prosecutor General's Office.
Following a public prosecution by the prosecutors of the Prosecutor General's Office, a foreigner who, during the war, transmitted data on the location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the Russian side and illegally stored weapons, has been sentenced to 8 years and 6 months of imprisonment
As reported by the Prosecutor General's Office, the verdict was delivered on April 30, 2026, by the Kyivskyi District Court of Odesa, approving a plea bargain agreement.

In court, prosecutors proved that the convict transmitted information that allowed for the identification of Ukrainian military positions on the ground. This information could have been used by the aggressor state.
It was established that he acted out of mercenary motives and with the aim of transferring this data to representatives of the Russian Federation.
In addition, illegally acquired and stored firearms and ammunition—a Makarov pistol and live rounds—were found in his possession.
His actions were qualified under Part 3 of Art. 114-2 and Part 1 of Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Based on the totality of the crimes, the court imposed a sentence of 8 years and 6 months of imprisonment.

Background
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the foreigner arrived in Ukraine in January 2024 and initially worked as a military instructor. He conducted classes for Ukrainian servicemen in Mykolaiv, and later in one of the border units.
At the end of September 2024, he ceased his instructional activities, moved to Odesa, and established contact with a representative of the Russian special service. Subsequently, he agreed to transmit military information for a reward.

The investigation documented that in May 2025, he transmitted coordinates of the locations of Ukrainian units, photographs of the territory of a training facility, and information about servicemen with the possibility of their identification. He also collected data on objects in Odesa, discussed the possibility of using explosive devices, and attempted to gain access to the command of military units. For one of the tasks, he received 6,000 US dollars.
In October 2025, he was exposed and detained.
On March 27, 2026, prosecutors of the Specialized Defense Prosecution of the Prosecutor General's Office sent the indictment to court along with a plea bargain agreement.
